Call for Nominations for Named Lectures
We are delighted to hear of nominations for the Joseph Hoet and Jorgen Pedersen awards
Jorgen Pedersen
In 1946 Jørgen Pedersen, professor in internal medicine in Copenhagen, opened the Copenhagen Center for Pregnant Women with Diabetes. He was among the first – if not the first – to start seriously looking into the fields of diabetes and pregnancy in a scientific, as well as a clinical, way. Among other things he formulated a hypothesis concerning how maternal hyperglycemia affects the fetus – the so-called “Pedersen Hypothesis”, which still is relevant.
In recognition of Dr. Pedersen’s contributions, each year since 1980, the Board of the DPSG elects an individual to deliver the prestigious Jørgen Pedersen Lecture at the annual meeting
Joseph Hoet
Joseph J. Hoet was appointed Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Catholic University of Louvain in 1969.
He is remembered as an inspirational teacher. In a long and distinguished research career he investigated the role of maternal nutritional environment in the fetal development. Along with Jorgen Pedersen and John Stowers he initiated the first meeting of DPSG.
We are delighted that the 20th Joseph Hoet Research Award (JHRA) will be given at the 57th Annual Meeting of the Study Group 4-6th September
Diabetic Pregnancy Study Group
The Diabetic Pregnancy Study Group (DPSG) is an organisation for professionals with a scientific interest in diabetes and pregnancy. DPSG was established in the 1960s with the aim to improve the detection and management of diabetes in pregnant women and their offspring by fostering research, treatment and education in the subject of diabetic pregnancy. Members of the organisation arrange an annual meeting with presentations of ongoing and recently published studies for both members and non-members.
